Sole E55 Elliptical Review
The Sole E55 is a mid range elliptical from Sole Fitness. It's brand new for this year and it is a sensible approach by Sole to have a good quality elliptical at this mid price. This is for buyers who want the good Sole features but not pay too much for them.
It was built to cater for those with less space in the home but still wanted a high end spec that Sole can provide. For this reason the E55 is more compact than it's bigger cousin the E95. Yet it still has the 9" LCD display, multi position foot pedals and more.

The console is the same as the E35 and I gave that 4 stars so this E55 gets the same. As I said earlier it has a 9" LCD display with all the data you need of how well you're exercising. I like the message window at the bottom of the display which tells you the program name, laps, incline and more. The headphone jack is useful in case you need to be quiet and still enjoy your music.
For a closer look at the console and which buttons do what the manual has detailed descriptions (link in box to the right). It's very easy to use and you will become familiar with it in minutes. There are a few useful things to know which are explained in the manual, like if you press stop twice the workout will end and you'll get a summary of what you did wherever you are in the routine.
I've said this on every Sole elliptical review I've done and it's the same for this E55: The programs aren't that great, you do get some but I would say it's an average selection. That's why it get's a 3 star rating. But let's be honest I'm sure most of us just use the manual program after a while anyway, I know I do. Like when you go on an elliptical in a gym or health club.
The manual program does have some nice touches to it which you will appreciate. When you select manual you're asked for your age which you enter using the level up and down buttons. You then confirm your selection by pressing the enter key. You do the same when asked for your weight. Entering this gives you a more accurate workout summary at the end. You don't have to though, you can just press start.
I always like an interval program and you get one here. The manual helpfully shows you pictures of the incline and resistance. With the interval program it looks like a group of hills you'll be navigating. I always find my fitness improves greatly if I can get through an interval program and the same will be for you. These are customizable to you fitness level by selecting the peak exertion at the start.
There is a fantastic feature you don't see on much fitness equipment. When you turn on the E55, it will do a self test to check everything is ok then it will tell you how many virtual miles have been done. It will also tell you for how many hours the elliptical has been used for. It's a simple feature and one that I really like.
The E55 has 10 position foot pedals so you can tailor the fit exactly for you. This is important as it's your feet that are connected with the equipment so it has to be perfect for every individual. An elliptical has hardly any impact compared to a treadmill and an adjustable foot pedal means there is even less. This makes the E55 suitable for everyone no matter what their fitness level.
I recommend that you always buy Sole equipment through the manufacturer, that is where the links on this page go to. I even recommend buying direct over shopping with Amazon in this case. For a start there is free shipping to anywhere in the contagious US. There is also no sales tax unless you're purchasing in Utah or California.
The maximum user weight is 375 lbs or 170 kg. If it was 400 lbs it would get 5 stars because that's the best I've seen with home ellipticals. 375 is just as good and barely any difference really. It's a substantial and sturdy machine and that's why it can handle this user weight.

The warranty is lifetime for the frame, 5 years parts and electronics, and 2 years labor. As with the maximum user weight you can do better hence the 4 stars. But considering the price of the E55 I think this is exceptional. The labor is the important one and it's 2 years here. This warranty is above average and perfect for the home setting.
At the time of writing the E55 is $1,399.99. This represents excellent value for money and nearly 5 stars. I just think you need a few more programs and features for that. It's still a very good buy as all the Sole ellipticals are, they are always good value for money. Sole have packed in everything they can at this price so 4 stars makes it's value is above average and recommended.
The most impressive part of this elliptical is the maximum user weight and yet it's compact at the same time. I always say when buying an elliptical for the home spend as much as you can afford. The E55 is better than the E35 so, if you can afford it, go for this one. That's not saying the E35 is inferior, you just get that little bit more and that makes it worth it.
For the home the E55 is a very good elliptical. I think the minimum you should spend is $1,000. I say that because cheaper ellipticals won't last, the warranty is always a good indication of this. The E55 has a 2 year in home labor and that should peak your attention. It's only been introduced for this year and I think it will be a very good seller. Sole have cleverly built a great elliptical at a great price.
